Caldera is a four-piece instrumental-metal outfit from Nancy, France. Its latest release, Mithra, captures without vocals the mysteries of the Mithraic Mysteries, a Roman religion that directly opposed Christianity until it was banned in 391 CE. Totaling thirty-three minutes in length, the album’s two tracks “Lithogenitvs” and “Sacrificivm” give us many of the elements post-metal enthusiasts have come to love: crunchy mid-tempo chugs from two guitars, ominous buildups that break into huge walls of sound, and the occasional clean passages for a breath of air. Very well-crafted heavy music.

2. Sacrificivm (Corvvs, Ave Despectvs, Scorpio) 18:30
